Our chapter submitted two award nominations to the AGA National Awards Committee for the Chapter Service Award and the Chapter Education Award. These awards will be presented during AGA’s Professional Development Conference & Exposition in Atlanta, GA to be held July 27-30, 2008. Thanks to all for the input into the nominations for Janice Jensen (Chapter Service) and Andy Nielsen (Chapter Education).
May 6th will be our evening meeting to be held at Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse - RSVP to Suzanne Dahlstrom or Sue Battani. A reminder will be sent out regarding this meeting. Suzanne noted that Sue will not be able to attend, so Andy has agreed to present the year end awards this year. Suzanne has purchased the year end gifts on-line with AGA.
We ran through the list of duties for the May 14th Ethics Seminar. Valerie noted those willing to help and will send out the updated list of duties via email.
Valerie attended the regional conference call. There was some discussion regarding an Early Careers Scholarship for registration to attend the National PDC. Regional is collection speaker information from the local chapters with hopes of compiling a list of speakers, phone numbers, and cost. They also gave an update on upcoming seminars that other chapters are hosting.
Suzanne also mentioned that the SLM is set to be held May 2nd and 3rd in New Orleans. The positions that have been invited include President Elect, President Elect Designee, Chapter Membership, Early Careers, CGFM Chair, and Chapter Education. Those who hold these positions who are interested in attending will need to get registered soon. Marlene noted that she plans to request at SLM the possibility of National providing each chapter new CGFM study guides or possibly a credit in exchange for our existing CGFM study guides. Those interested in obtaining their CGFM, stay tuned.
Our chapter has been raising funds for the Food Bank of Iowa as a community service project at the last two monthly meetings. Members donated $201.00 and the chapter matched funds up to $100.00, for a grand total of $301.00 donated to the Food Bank of Iowa. National will also be making a matched donation to the Food Bank of Iowa for an additional $301, for a total donation of $602. Thanks to all who donated to this worthy cause!
There was some discussion regarding our chapter website and the procedures on how to update the website. We will consider getting some formal procedures in writing.
We received a thank-you from Michael Stevens, this year’s scholarship recipient. Deb will contact him with regards to his interest in becoming an Early Career member of our chapter.
Suzanne noted that we have had 9 new members join our chapter this year with 5 joining us since February. Suzanne will work on getting a free lunch certificate to these new members and contact Cheryl about sending out a welcome message to them.
Suzanne thanked the CEC members for all of their hard work and support during her year as AGA President of our chapter.
Newsletter items are due no later than April 25th. Dorothy Stover will prepare the newsletter this month.
